Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
David A. Nicholson, organist and choir director at Grace Lutheran Church, is originally from a rural area in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. A 1970 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, he was immediately drafted into the US Army and played clarinet in the Army bands at Fort Dix, New Jersey and in Fuerth, Germany. Following his Honorable Discharge in 1972 he was hired as the Director of Secondary Choral Music Activities in the Southern York County School District, holding that position for 30 years (1972-2002). Additionally, he was the District Chairman of Fine Arts and served as music director for several of the high school musical productions.
Dave has been involved in all aspects of church music—choir member, tenor soloist, choir director, and organist—in several York area churches/Temple for nearly 40 years. In 1999 he was engaged to serve as the interim director of the York Symphony Chorus, preparing the singers for the annual Christmas Concert with the orchestra. Upon relocating fulltime to the Eastern Shore in 2013, he makes his home in Wittman. Beyond music Dave enjoys collecting antiques, travel, crabbing, and dining out wherever/whenever someone else will prepare the meal and clean up following!
